I was gonna feature nothing but Transformers related trailers this week but then I saw the Trailer for the new film version of John LeCarre’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and decided there was more important things to feature. So there’s that trailer which will be followed by a trailer for Apollo 18 and we’ll end with something retro. Enjoy!

So over the last 2 days I’ve trudged through the enjoyable yet flawed Transformers live action movie and it’s sequel Revenge Of The Fallen, a film by which all bad films are now judged against. Today we’re going back in time like Marty McFly to 1986 with the animated Transformers The Movie. If you were born in the early 80s chances are you’ve watched this film some 200 times over. Chances are if you have kids you’ve made them watch it. Why? Because it’s fecking awesome that’s why!
It’s day two of my Transformers week here on The Film Dump and my what a treat I have to review today. Transformers Revenge Of The Fallen is the worst thing to happen to humanity since the Bubonic Plague. OK that might be an exaggeration of some kind I intend to explain why it’s at least as bad as the Black Death. I’ll try to keep this short, but as master Yoda says, “do or do not, there is no try” and in the case of this film I don’t think I can “do” a short review. 3000 words likely coming up.
No sooner do I finish the first review for my Transformers week but up pops a final trailer for Transformers Dark Of The Moon. It’s only a minute long but it’s full of the good stuff. Explosions, giant robots Shia LaBeouf shouting “OPTIMUS!”. Yup all the traits of a Transformers film are there. Also there’s a brief shot of the sky diving sequence which I saw a little of in 3D before Green Lantern and it was impressive stuff. Anyway, click the link to enjoy.
When I did my X-Men week a short while ago I approached the films in chronological order. It’s the logical way to go I suppose. So why am I starting my Transformers week with the 2007 Micheal Bay film instead of the 1986 animated movie? Because I’m quite looking forward to Dark Of The Moon and I don’t want to go into that with the last film I watched being Transformers Revenge Of The Fallen. I needed the last Transformers film I reviewed before the new one to be a good one. I can’t go into Dark Of The Moon in a bad mood expecting the worst. So I’m starting with Bayformers 1, then Revenge Of The Fallen and ending with the animated film to put me in the best mood possible. With that all said, on with the show…
Should start by saying that this review gets a little spoilery so yeah, don’t read if you don’t wanna know what happens.
Ever wonder if some movie review critics know the first thing about the art of cinema? I know I have. You only have to read one of Armond Whites reviews on The New Press website to find that question popping up in your head. The Killer Inside me is one of those films that divided critics and in doing so expose the one that (As Stephen Dalton of The Times put it) “have made the classic mistake of confusing content for intent”. The Killer Inside me is at times brutally violent, mostly towards women, but there’s good reason for this and I shall try me best to explain.
It’s officially the end of month 2 for The Film Dump and stats have been all crazy up in dis bitch over the last month. I did a stats dump entry on May 25th and at the end I said I’d do another at the 6 month mark. But due to the massive leap in views I got this month and the amount the stats have been shaken up I thought I do one now. I’m a bit of a stats geek, hopefully you are too. Here we go…
And as per usual a short while after doing this weeks Trailer Park Thursday I discover a trailer Id really like to have included. This week it’s a brand new and quite lengthy trailer for Captain America: The First Avenger and man it’s a good’un. This nails everything the Captain America film should be and retains that authentic comic book film all the Marvel movies have had recently. So click the link to enjoy.
So we’re less than a week away from the release of Transformers: Dark Of The Moon and a little more than a week away from when I’ll be seeing it. I’ll be going to see it on Friday night seeing as I have no pennies before then. Boo and indeed hiss. Next week, starting Monday I’ll be reviewing each Transformers film leading up to my review of the new film which should go up on Friday. In light of Transformers week, this week’s trailer park will include the latest of the Transformers 3 trailers. Also we’ll have the trailer for the remake of Footloose and the new Cronenberg film A Dangerous Method. As usual I’ll also dig up some retro trailer goodness. Click the link for viewing pleasures.
That is one cumbersome title. Why not just call it The Owls Of Ga’Hoole? Or Guardians Of Ga’Hoole as the book it’s based on is called. I suppose they wanted both Guardians and Owls in the title but it’s not like you wouldn’t have noticed the owls all over the posters. I dunno, marketing departments these days huh? Anyway, this is my review…
